Acceptance Over Judgement

I do not believe these verses are about cussing more so than speaking in a negative, hurtful or angry way toward others. One can use a cuss word in a playful manner, considering most swear words have multiple definitions now- both positive and negative. Although, I do understand that many meanings of these words do demonstrate a negative connotation. Say we are looking at the vulgar definition of a swear word. For you to say that if someone cusses than that person’s religion is worthless sounds very judgmental to me. I do not think playing the role of God and determining weather someone’s religion is worthless based on your own interpretation of what negative language means is very godly. Do you think this post is edifying? This is the problem with religion, others think they can determine someone’s relationship with God based on their own judgment. You are not God and have no room to judge others. Please tell me that you have never cussed, said the Lord’s name in vain, or have said one negative thing in your life. That’s right, you cannot say that. So maybe take a rain check and ask yourself if you think sharing this will make others want to come to your Bible study/church or (especially nonbelievers) want to follow Christ. Judgmental people in the church is a big reason why people turn away from religion and/or God and I can attest to that. This is truly heartbreaking.
Please look at the full context of the verses James 3:7-12 instead of pulling out one verse (James 3:10). In verse 8 it specifically says that “no human being can tame the tongue” meaning nobody has a perfect tongue or speaks solely of praise.
“7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.“ James 3:7-12
And with that let’s take a look at Romans 3:23, “ for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” This is basically saying again that nobody is perfect and everyone sins.
Ok now let’s also look at Luke 6:42…
“How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye”
The person who posted this was preaching to everyone else that they must control their tongue. It appears that the person who shared this was looking at everyone else’s flaws but their own.
I say instead of judging others, let’s do what God really wants for us… to love one another and accept each other for both our flaws and strengths because we all have them.
